Klipfontein Tea

Dec 8, 2023

Well done Thembi for running with this and organising a wonderful event, and thanks to all those who supported her in ensuring a successful afternoon.
Thembi van Rensburg, the ADASA community worker and member of Coastal Kindness Dementia support group and a Klipfontein resident, hosted an end of year tea party for older Klipfontein residents on Saturday 2 December in the Klipfontein School Hall. About 30 residents chatted, danced and enjoyed tea, cakes and sandwiches while catching up with one another.

Residents were entertained by a group of dancers and drummers from Marselle, part of the Kariega Foundation Outreach Programme, who also handed out a gift to each attendee from the Foundation. In her welcome speech Thembi spoke about the importance of breaking the isolation many older people experience once they are unable to get out and about easily, and the importance of family and community in ensuring that older residents can enjoy times of relaxation and socialisation.

It was a memorable afternoon supported by a range of Kenton, Klipfontein and Bushmans businesses, organisations and individuals, and all attending agreed it was a wonderful initiative that should be repeated annually.

Well done Thembi for running with this and organising a wonderful event, and thanks to all those who supported her in ensuring a successful afternoon.
